Apple Is Exploring Four Vision Pro Redesigns, Gurman Reports
The N224 project could move computing hardware off the headset to reduce weight, but Apple reportedly has yet to settle on a design.
Apple is exploring roughly four designs for a revamped Vision Pro, according to a September 27 post from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (opens in a new tab). The project is codenamed N224, and some of the concepts would move components out of the headset to make it lighter.
That could change how much of the computer you actually wear on your face. Vision Pro already has a separate battery, but its processing hardware remains in the headset. Moving more of that hardware off the head is one route Apple is reportedly considering.
The current M5 model weighs 750–800 grams with its Light Seal and Dual Knit Band (opens in a new tab), according to Apple. Its separate battery adds another 353 grams.
A design decision still to be made
Gurman says some senior Apple decision-makers oppose an external computing puck and prefer a design that keeps more of the hardware together. His post does not detail all four concepts or give a target weight.
Apple has not announced N224. If the project ships, Gurman says it is unlikely to arrive before late 2028 or early 2029.
