Insta360 Will Reveal the X6 on August 12
The official teaser ends with footage labeled Shot on Insta360 X6, but keeps the new 360 camera’s price and specs under wraps.
Insta360 will reveal the X6 on August 12 at 6 a.m. Pacific, opening pre-orders for the next generation of its flagship 360 camera.
The official clip takes the camera underwater and ends with the words “Shot on Insta360 X6.” It does not reveal the price or full specifications yet.
The X6 is real
Insta360’s launch page (opens in a new tab) promises an in-depth product reveal on August 12 at 9 p.m. in Beijing. That is 6 a.m. Pacific and 9 a.m. Eastern on the same day.
People in the United States and Canada can register in the Insta360 app before launch. Registration is free, but it does not reserve a camera or lock in a price. Insta360 says registered buyers can receive a free shipping coupon, priority order processing, and five Insta360 Gold points after meeting the offer’s conditions.
What I want from an X5 successor
I love my X5 for two kinds of capture. I use it to shoot 360 video, recording every direction at once so I can choose where the final camera points after the moment has passed.

I also turn X5 footage into Gaussian splats. A Gaussian splat is a photograph you can move through. It gives me another way to preserve a real place and bring it into a spatial experience.
How the X series has changed
Insta360’s official X Series comparison (opens in a new tab) shows two different kinds of progress. X4 made the jump to 8K. X5 kept that resolution while adding larger sensors, faster 4K capture, and longer 8K battery life.

Battery figures are Insta360 lab estimates. Recording modes differ because X3 does not shoot 8K 360 video.
The most useful X6 improvements would make the footage cleaner, keep the camera running longer, or make large files easier to move and edit.
A July report from WinFuture (opens in a new tab) showed what it described as official marketing images of a shorter X6 body and an 8K 360 mode at 50 frames per second. Those details remain unconfirmed until Insta360 presents the camera.
Insta360 has not confirmed the X6 price, sensor size, battery life, shipping date, or which accessories will work with it. Those are the details to watch when the reveal begins on August 12.
