Fallout: Factions Brings a Tabletop Wasteland to XREAL Aura Glasses

Mirrorscape’s take on the Fallout miniatures game uses hand tracking to move pieces, measure distances, and roll dice on your real table.

Fallout: Factions is coming to XREAL Aura. Google included the tabletop game in its October 28 launch announcement (opens in a new tab) for the Android XR glasses.

Mirrorscape is adapting Modiphius Entertainment’s miniatures game (opens in a new tab), with 3D crews that sit on your own table. The studio named it an Aura launch title in a June 24 announcement.

How it plays

This is a two-player, turn-based battle for Nuka-World. Each player controls a small crew and takes turns moving into cover, firing at enemies, or closing in for a fight.

  • Three factions. Choose the Operators, the Pack, or the Disciples, each with its own weapons and abilities.
  • Dice decide the attacks. Your weapon and your fighter’s stats help determine whether a shot or swing lands. The weapons range from spiked bats to shotguns.
  • Two views. Look down on the whole battle or see the action from a crew member’s point of view.
  • Local and online play. Battle a friend across the table or someone in another part of the world.

Your hands move the pieces. Mirrorscape’s play guide (opens in a new tab) describes pinching to select a fighter, choosing a move, then picking it up and placing it. A measuring tool shows how far it can travel. Hand tracking also lets you roll the digital dice.

Playing on Aura

Aura’s lenses are transparent, so you see your room with your own eyes. The game appears over that view. You can watch the miniatures and still see the person sitting across the table.

The glasses connect by cable to a small compute pack that holds the processor and battery. Other games announced for Aura (opens in a new tab) include Demeo and Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars.

Price and availability

Mirrorscape has not posted a price or exact store release date for Fallout: Factions. Its site also lists a Steam version as coming soon, without a date or details on VR support.

XREAL Aura starts at $1,099 (opens in a new tab) through the end of 2026, with US shipments beginning in mid-November. Orders are open in the US, Canada, and South Korea. Google lists November 2 as Japan’s order date.

You can sign up for game updates and playtest invitations on the Fallout: Factions site (opens in a new tab).
