Meta Sets the Final OS Update for Quest 2 and Quest Pro
The rollout starts in January and finishes by March 2027. Games, the Store, and PC VR keep working, with security fixes continuing through the end of 2027.

Meta is ending feature development for Quest 2 and Quest Pro. It shared the full timeline on its developer blog (opens in a new tab) on November 2.
Horizon OS v2.13 will be the last update that adds new system features to either headset. Meta’s support page (opens in a new tab) says the rollout will start in January 2027 and reach all devices by March.
After that, new operating system features and developer tools will go to Quest 3, Quest 3S, and newer devices.
What keeps working
Your games stay in your library. You can still browse the Store, buy and download compatible apps, and play what you already own. Meta says it will not remove apps from the Store because of this change.
- Multiplayer. Cross-play with Quest 3 and Quest 3S stays supported. Game developers still need to keep their versions compatible so players can join each other.
- App updates. Developers can keep adding content and fixing bugs in existing apps. Meta has set no end date for those updates.
- PC VR. Link, which lets the headset play VR games running on a PC, keeps working.
The December 2027 cutoff
Meta will send quarterly security patches and critical bug fixes through the end of 2027. December is also the last month developers can submit new apps for Quest 2 or Quest Pro.
After that, new titles can launch on Quest 3, Quest 3S, and newer devices, but will not be offered on the older headsets. Owners can still use their headsets after the cutoff.
What developers need to do
Meta’s developer guide (opens in a new tab) gives studios two ways to keep supporting these players. They can keep one version of an app compatible with v2.13, or maintain a separate version for the older headsets while adding newer features elsewhere.
The last supported developer toolkit is v213. Meta will not test later system and toolkit releases on Quest 2 or Quest Pro, so studios that keep supporting them need to test on the actual headsets.
If a developer ends support in a way that takes away access to content or essential services, Meta requires at least 180 days of written notice to customers.
Where it fits
Quest 2 launched in October 2020, followed by Quest Pro in 2022. Meta now treats Quest 3 and Quest 3S as its baseline for VR games.
Apps built for those newer headsets also carry forward to Meta VR Glasses (opens in a new tab), due in spring 2027. They run the same operating system and developer tools.
